Description
A ribbon blender is a horizontal trough with a shaft carrying two helical ribbons: the outer ribbon moves the product towards one end and the inner ribbon towards the other. The opposing flows mix the whole volume over and over, which is why ribbon blenders are used for dry bulk blends, powders and granules, including when a small amount of liquid is added.
Milberg makes ribbon blenders from 30 to 3,000 L in stainless steel for the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. A version for pharmaceutical production is available. Loading is through a top hatch, discharge through a bottom valve.
A ribbon blender is the right choice when the product flows poorly or cakes and cannot be mixed by tumbling in a rotating drum ("Drunken barrel" tumble mixer, V-blender) — the agitator works inside a stationary body.

How does a ribbon blender differ from the "Drunken barrel" and the V-blender?
In the "Drunken barrel" and the V-blender the whole body rotates and the product is mixed by tumbling — this is gentle, but the product must flow well. In a ribbon blender the body is stationary and the product is moved by the agitator ribbons, so poorly flowing and caking products can also be mixed.
