The homogenizer: an indispensable machine for producing quality butter

Today dairy producers make wide use of homogenization. Homogenizers improve the sensory properties of the products and extend their shelf life.

There are different types of homogenizers for different products. In this article we will talk about the butter homogenizer.

This specialized equipment homogenizes butter, greatly improving its consistency and distributing moisture evenly throughout the product. Homogenization also stabilizes the flavour of the butter throughout its shelf life.

In addition, the homogenizer is used to produce high-fat cream from butter made by the churning method.

The homogenization process itself consists of breaking down milk fat globules through intense mechanical action. This greatly reduces the size of the globules and hence the rate at which they rise to the surface. The homogenizer works as follows: chilled butter blocks are loaded into the feed hopper. Counter-rotating screws force the butter through a rotor into a rectangular nozzle, from which it emerges as a block and goes into the packing machine. To prevent butter from sticking to the screws, they are lubricated with a special solution.

The homogenizer can be combined in one line with a packing machine. In this way, once the product has reached the required consistency in one machine, it goes straight into the other for packing. This arrangement significantly reduces labour costs, although the homogenizer can also be used on its own.

Buying a homogenizer for your production is not difficult today. There are plenty of suppliers of such equipment, but you should only trust established companies that are prepared to give a quality warranty on their equipment. Apart from choosing the manufacturer, you should also pay attention to other important points.

  • The warranty period offered by the manufacturer. Never buy products without a warranty at all. As for the period during which the company is prepared to repair or replace faulty equipment, the longer the better.
  • Resource costs. The capacity of the equipment should match the company's needs so as not to create additional costs and raise the production cost.
  • Additional services. A supplier that makes quality equipment can also offer after-sales service. This may include technical advice during the warranty period, sales of spare parts or equipment adjustment. However, service has to be paid for, and such equipment will cost more.

By choosing quality equipment you can achieve a quality product, which customers will undoubtedly appreciate.
