In winter, calf feeding becomes a separate concern on any dairy farm: milk has to reach the calf barn warm and be dispensed quickly, before it cools. That was exactly the task facing a private producer in the Vologda Region, where the frosty season lasts a good half of the year.

In December 2021 the farm received an MT-200 milk taxi — a mobile 200-litre tank for transporting, heating and dosed dispensing of milk. The heated stainless steel tank holds the set temperature, and the dispensing gun makes it possible to pour identical portions for every calf.

The agitator keeps the milk from separating, so every calf receives product with the same fat content — which shows directly in the weight gain and health of young stock. One worker easily moves the taxi along the calf barn alleys, without buckets or portable milk cans.

Feeding has become faster, portions accurate, and warm milk guaranteed in any frost. For the livestock unit this is one of those machines that repay the investment not directly, but through herd health and labour saved on daily routine. The stainless steel tank is easy to wash after every feed, which removes the risk of bacterial contamination — no amount of savings helps sick young stock.
